compile cruft

My tree is now full of cruft:

$ ls src/mathed/formula.*
src/mathed/formula.C
src/mathed/formula.h
src/mathed/formula.lo
src/mathed/formula.o
src/mathed/formula.o.d

Is the new .o.d file really necessary?
