This is incredibly cool. What's ugly about it? Actually cooler still would be to be able to toggle(*) the math inset itself back and forth between the current 'blue math' and a 'red code' mode, looking a bit like an ERT inset(+). The code itself is already in LyX, so asking for a 'raw' instead of parsed rendering should not be _very_ impossible. As you demonstrated here.
