I don't really care how it is solved as long as I can type
<C-l>xxxxx<some-other-key> and end up behind a closed ERT inset. 

Being able to bind  <some-other-key> to 'command-sequence escape ;
word-backward ; toggle-inset ; word-forward ; ' would be completly
sufficient.
