unfortunately we as developers have to second-guess what the users as a whole
want, and come up with good compromises. In particular motivated users such as Michael
Schmitt only form a certain percentage of the people who use lyx, we can't always
rely on a "polling" method to come up with the best UI.

Which users have you actually asked ? /Nobody/ is designing the lyx UI on
personal whim (well, not these days), so stop pretending everyone except you
is ;)

agreed. BUT bear in mind as Angus said fixing the root cause as much as possible
is important. For example, the tabular dialog is the worst piece of UI in lyx,
and it needs fixing at the root - most of its complexity can be fixed to be more 
intuitive
