Ok. I see the cause of this problem but no easy solution. Actually it is
similar to the 'boldmath problem': We have a 'logical' font attribute
('normal math') but no single font to take the glyphs from for on-cscreen
drawing ('normal' mean 'upright for numbers, but italics for letters')

It break the current system. Otoh this problem is a hint that the current
system is broken.

Maybe we need two 'font indicators' for the characters: One for 'logical',
and one for 'physical' markup...

Yes, the problem is for display in LyX only.
