I can't duplicate this.  Can you provide the file you've been importing?

At present S-C-m toggles math formulae between inline and display
mode.  Should there be a seperate command "Toggle Math mode?"
choosing insert -> Math -> display isn't really the obvious option if
you want to switch back to inline mode.
