"reproduce it" is the wrong term, but I can crash LyX fairly reliable.
OTOH, it might be my own stuff which is wrong:

I simply click into a formula and draw the mouse to the left with left
mouse button held down. I think the crash is triggerd during the drawing of
the light blue selection area.

It does not crash if I click, release the mouse button, press it again and
start moving the mouse. The main difference between the two scenarios is
that in the latter case the inset cursor got drawn a few more times...
