People have been complaining about the Splash dialog since the beginning of
time. It obsures other popups. It appears on all virtual desktops on KDE. It
does other nasty things with other window managers.

This small patch (attached) will allow us to get rid of the Splash dialog
entirely. Instead, the pixmap is added to the WorkArea code and becomes
visible when no buffer is shown.

It works like a charm here.

Note that I have not commented out/removed the Splash dialog code in the
patch, so two pixmaps are displayed currently, slightly offset. Nor have I
added the "version" string to the WorkArea code. Both are the work of an
instant if you like the approach.

Shall I apply it?
