I don't really know. After all, people might have a reason to put a label
in there and LaTeX allows it. And people could circumvent it even if we
disallwed it by "mutating" to equatin, insert label and mutate back to
inline...
I think I'd rather leave it as it is.
Oh - I just see, I have just marked Tuukka's request "Not a bug", but not
Dekel's similar item...
OTOH, now that two people complained and you offer a complete patch we
could as well apply it and wait for people complaining the other way round
;-)
