sorry, that's crap. Have you actually read the bug report ? You can specify

\view_dvi_paper_option ""

to use KDE2 kdvi.

well let's look at what happened :

before check in
---------------

KDE2 kdvi can be used with a workaround.
KDE1 kdvi can be used just fine.

after check in
--------------

KDE2 kdvi can be used, but missing an important feature not supported by kdvi
KDE1 kdvi can be used, but missing an important feature that IS supported

Why is this an improvement ?
