The problem with /tmp is unknown to me, if you could explain step by
step what you did, where your files were and what the status of r/w of
the files/dirs was I will try to reproduce it.
Regarding the image showing in LyX with "error converting" it's a known
problem since I havne't defined x to XPM format converters, I'll be
working on a custom converter/transformer for images.
