maybe this is because there is no icons/ dir?

Lars, how is the cgi-bin stuff setup?  I changed the lyx_small3.gif file
in www-user so if that is a hard link from the cgi directory then it will
miss.  A soft link should still find the new
www-user/images/lyx_small3.gif though.
