As it was pointed that you can put a file name favicon.ico (MS format)
under the root directory of the webpage. IE/Konqueror/Galeon will try to
fetch this file.
OTH, you can use any file for this by putting sth like
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="lyx.ico">
in the page. I put it in <head> ... </head> section.

The attached lyx.ico is created from lyx_small3.gif. I cut out LyX text
though. I create this one using gimp to convert and resize the file to
32x32 xpm format. Then I use xpm2wico (there is one in debian) to
convert to .ico.
Let me know how you like this one. I put this icon on my site
http://cook.anu.edu.au/ for an example. It does work with IE/Konqueror
but not galeon on my box. May be my galeon is too old.
