IMHO, it all seems rather confusing to outsiders.

To some, failure to choose a modern toolkits might suggest the avoidance
of religious warfare, rather than sagacious development strategy.

To others, GUI "independence" might suggest that the developers are
suffering through all sorts of additional effort, seeping into every
nook and crany of the code.

Whether or not any member of The LyX Team is specifically supporting a
port to Windows, GUII might, to some, seem related to Windows support.
The benefits for the Unixes, where modern X-server oriented toolkits are
pretty well cross-platform, are not immediately obvious.

Many recent postings to this list suggest that the the above impressions
would be inaccurate, or that there is an important story to be told.

Wading through the archives in search of rationale for these and other
decisions is probably not a realistic option for most people who might
want to take a look at this effort and its future.

Is there any possibility, perhaps on one of the LyX web pages, for a
statement of the development strategy and rationale?
