This looks like the cases where LyX reports big problems on lyxerr (i.e.
most certainly in ~/.xsession_error or somesuch) instead of displaying a
message box.
[I've been bitten in my thesis, where a personalized layout included other
personalized ones--that I hadn't recopied in the appropriate ~/.lyx*: I
noticed I had lost theorems and such just before the final print :-)]
