This I cannot reproduce today. The image is always rendered
inside the document:
        ftp://ftp.cea.fr/incoming/y2k01/lyx/lyx2.png

This I can still reproduce. I've tried GhostScript 6.01, 6.50,
and 7.00 and LyX still freezes, consuming ~ 85% CPU.

Then I've compiled with egcs 1.1.2 instead of GCC 2.95.3 and
it works! So this was really related to the compiler or the
C++ library as far as I can tell.

So don't use GCC 2.95.3 to build LyX, at least on Solaris.
