Some food for thought.

following feedback message on the LyX home page:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today I took a look at "texmacs" <http://www.texmacs.org>, an
application that is a sort of bridge between LyX and Emacs. Though I
still prefere Lyx for writing my scientific documents (especially
because of the good documentation that come with it), texmacs has
several features that would make LyX even better.
First of all, several aspects of texmacs math-editor are faster and
more intuitive.
A few examples:
to write LaTeX' "\Longleftrightarrow" (which is quite slow and
"unfriendly") you simply write in sequence "<==>"; ">=" automagically
becomes a Latex "\ge", "=>" a "\Rightarrow", and so on (a
"disadvantage" of LyX is that if you want to edit formulas fast and
with all the needed symbol, the best way is learning by heart LaTeX
math-mode commands). Moreover, it displays screen output (almost)
exactly as the printed document will be: so, the foresaid "<==>"
wouldn't be displayed as it is, instead, as soon as you digit the last
">" and strike the spacebar, it would become a PostScript-like-looking
equivalence symbol.
So, I think that taking a look at texmacs to use some of its best
aspects in Lyx would be a good thing.
Then, there are a couple of things I've always been thinking about
since I started using LyX (that is a really GREAT application,
anyway). First, I've always missed a header/footer editor. Documents
have to be nicely printed and organized, of course, and LyX does it
with really few human efforts. But documents might be also nice
looking, or personalized, and this is quite difficult if you don't
have a good TeX/LaTeX background, and a friendly editor (especially
for fancy headers) to allow the user to customize the size of the
rules, the content of the header on the left, the header on the right,
and so on, would be quite good. Second... wouldn't it be nice to make
it easier to add Xfig's .pslatex to a document??
This is not all, but it is enough :)
Thanks for Lyx, good Job
Daniele
