Great. One thing we should not forget is to apply the tracked changes
in the docs at some point before final (and maybe before branching).
I'm not real well-informed about these matters. Do the translators still
need access to the change tracking? Until when?

AFAIC, until I have completed my doc translation. I'm not very far for the
time being, but I can refer to a previous version of the document in the
git history.
