What fonts for example are you using for the japanese tests? What is the error you get with the Japanese Customization doc test? Or even better, is there a way to manually run a specific test? If I simply open the Japanese customization guide and check the use non-TeX fonts box, I don't see any fonts selected, so I could not tell what fonts were being used in the test that was failing.
