Yes, it is expected, since this is where they are usually on the
respective platforms. We emphasize being consistent with the platform
rules over being consistent across platforms.
It would be nice if the About LyX option on both systems also showed the
lyxformat value (e.g. 630)
The lyxformat is really internal, we try not to expose it (see my answer
to your message on lyx-users).
