I never felt the need for branches. Maybe because they are not common
elsewhere and hence they are not part of my workflow.
Yes, but they are immensely useful. How do you do an exercise sheet in
two versions, with or without answers, in MSWord? Or a Slide deck that
can be turned into a properly typeset handout?
Seeing the yellow note as an "always inactive" branch seems helpful.
Though I cannot help but wonder why it is more helpful than a default
branch that is deactivated by default and could in principle be activated.
It is a matter of history. Indeed, we could make yellow notes a built-in
branch, and that would allow to print them on demand.
One difference I noted is that branches have a strange indentation at
the beginning. But I seem to remember that this is a bug rather than a
feature.
A bug indeed.
