Should I open a trac ticket for this? I still don't understand the
underlying issue. If I remember correctly, in some cases there's nothing
we can do about it (I guess that's why we don't assert) so I wanted to
check in here first.
There are weird cases, yes, where we don't know what to do. But this
might not be one of those, and maybe it'll solve some other problem. So
create a ticket and attach the file. I'll have a look.
