Ever wondered why LyX is not listed in the application links at LWN? It's because you haven't emailed them and asked them very nicely if they might add a link to your favourite document processor. There are two suitable lists on their site: On the Desktop -> Office Apps Development Projects -> Application Links This second one lists a number of projects that get very rare mention in LWN. It seems many of them used to get regular mentions and now just get listed because the link count hasn't been trimmed. We don't really fit in the desktop publishing category but you might like to suggest the more appropriate category of: On The Desktop -> Document Processors In yesterdays' issue the two different editors of the "On the desktop" and "Development projects" sections both managed to talk about the same Abiword weekly news page but we only got a mention in the "Development projects". Perhaps it could be argued that this is because Abiword released a new version and so were given the extra mention in "On the desktop." Feel free to contact other sites such as Linux Today with requests to carry info on LDN or LyX releases. This also means you can and should send them announcement info. The more people that remind them that the info is available the more likley they'll think someone actually wants to read about it and they'll carry the stories. So do your bit for LyX publicity and spend a couple of minutes advocating LyX to highly visible sites (not just today but after each new release also -- point them to the announcement in the mail archive for example). You might even like to suggest that they subscribe to the lyx-announce mailing list. This is a very low volume list (about 30 emails last year IIRC). Allan. (ARRae) Chief Noise Maker and Foot Stamper
