Thanks for checking! I was expecting even less than that, but I agree ~2% is small enough, especially since I imagine that if someone did care about file size the difference in *compressed* .lyx files would be even smaller. If it were a large difference, I might dare to propose a document setting (my proposal would likely be rejected), since there would be a tradeoff for people who use version control versus people who want small file sizes.
