If you want your work included in LyX you should get a more recent version
to work on. The current stable release is 1.1.6fix1. There will be a
1.1.6fix2 in a week or two. LyX-1.0.4 is at least 2 years old now.
Ideally, you would use CVS to access an anonymous cvs server to get the
latest sources. This will make it easier to generate patches useful to
others. Please read the cvs page at:

an alternative is to get a snapshot of the current sources from:
ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/devel/lyx-1.2.0cvs.tar.gz
these are usually created every day although the current snapshot there is
11 days old.

The Options->Screen Fonts dialog has been merged into a much larger
Edit->Preferences dialog in recent versions of LyX. There are
considerably more options to choice from now also.
Please try a newer release. Any ideas or assistance is most welcome but
please develop on current software -- at least on the current stable
release but preferably on a copy of the cvs repository.
Unfortunatly, our main anonymous cvs server is offline for a few days
(maybe a week). However a couple of mirror sites are being setup.

P.S. What you are after is a Combox. Grep the sources for examples.
The document dialog uses a couple as does the layouts list in
the toolbar.
