Note, though, that there is the "LyX Archive" (export) format which creates an archive (zip or tar.gz) with all graphics, bib files etc. included. This could be extended to the way that those archives can be read without extra unpacking step (or can it already?), and then the format could be moved from export to save as an option. As to the request here, this would have the (severe) drawback that the LyX file is no longer a plain text file. Jürgen
