IIRC the preview mechanism used the dvi output.
I am quite happy to use the preview even although I do not know how this
works.
Is there any pdf path now?
I was under the impression that we used some dvi output for some features like
change tracking and preview. I know that dvipost is not used anymore on 2.4
but I am not sure about the preview display.

The only sting that I expect this year is from a syringe with the covid
vaccine, hopefully. :-)
