At the moment, 'make package' via cmake produces .gz and .Z files. We
now distribute gz and xz files. Can this be updated?
Also, what controls the RPM version (say)? Can this be adjusted for the
purposes of development builds? (I'm not sure what the version would
look like, but presumably it would be nice to have version numbers such
that the package manager can tell what is newer and what is older.)
