Thinking more, more straightforward solution to your problem would be just
new check box ("Include file as pdf attachment as well") in the listings dialog,
which would create necessary latex code for inclusion (and possible (re)define
varible e.g. "attached_file" with the filename string to be used later).
You would not need to play with external material mechanism.
The downside is that you won't be able to use filename string ahead of the
listings inset (or after another one).
