It's only quite recently that we've managed to make all of our scripts compatible with Python 3. Like, in the 2.3.x series? The reason why we did not just switch to Python 3 had originally to do with two things, I think. First, the Windows installer has used Python 2 for a while, and we are reluctant to change that lest we break things. Second, there have long been issues about detecting the right version of Python, especially (again) on Windows.
