Dear LyX developers,
I am a LyX user for some time now, but I have never faced any problems
that I couldn’t solve myself by going through internet discussions. This
is the first time, however, that I’m struggling with an issue that seems
to be completely beyond me.
I have one general Mojave-related issue and one specific issue
pertaining to the linguistics module under LyX 2.3.2. Unfortunately, I
haven’t been able to find any discussions of these problems anywhere on
the internet...
1) General issue: I’m currently running LyX 2.3.2 on MacOS Mojave
10.14.2 and I’m experiencing some issue when I try to open the app.
Immediately after I click on the LyX icon, the whole system freezes, the
LyX icon gets frozen while "jumping up and down" in dock and the only
way to solve this is to close my laptop, wait a couple of seconds and
open it again. Then everything is normal again and LyX is ready.
Unfortunately, when I want to open an existing file, the whole process
is extremely laggy and the menus sometimes freeze. This can be, however,
solved by closing the computer, waiting and opening it again as well.
Once the file has been successfully opened, there is no lagging or
freezing while working with LyX. Since this applies happens equally with
LyX 2.3.1-1 and LyX 2.3.2, I suspect that it has to do with the
operating system.
2) Specific issue: Only in the new version LyX 2.3.2 (LyX 2.3.1-1 works
fine in this respect), the linguistics module (linguistics.module)
doesn’t seem to work properly. When I try to compile a file with
subexamples such as (1a) and (1b), I get the following error: "undefined
control sequence" and "You can’t use 'blank space ' after \advance". If
I let the pdf file be generated in spite of this, the subexamples are
there, but there is also "-0,5em" appears at the end of the paragraph
preceding the subexamples. A file that should, hopefully, illustrate
this is attached to this email.
Should you need any further information from me, I’ll gladly give it to
you. This is my first email regarding a technical issue with LyX ever
and I’m not sure about what is (ir)relevant.
In any case, thanks in advance for your efforts and for your help!
Best wishes,
Martin
