I guess the intended use of a "selection text" color is there to make sure
that the selected text is visible in the selection, given the "selection"
(background) color. However, the same seems to hold for other elements like
math and formatting characters. Hence my suggestion.

Not sure if relevant, but I was thinking the other day that when I
select a child document inset (or BibTeX inset, etc), it takes an extra
few millisects for me to confirm it is selected, because there's not
much blue on the edges. One way to make the selection stand out more
would be to change the label of the inset.

Yes, I noticed that as well.

One way to take care of it is to make its background and text color the same as the selected and selected text color. Though this would make the label indistinguishable from.

Alternatively, the selection color could be blended with the label, like a translucent layer of the select color, as does Libre Office. Same could be applied to graphics.
