regular expression search for emphasized chars fails

This is test 'keytest/findadv-re-04'

1.) Open attached file with 'lyx -dbg key,find test.lyx'
2.) goto start of buffer
3.) open advanced search
4.) in Settings de-select 'ignore format'
5.) select emphasized
6.) select regexp-mode
        (with Alt-x regexp-mode)
7.) enter [a-z]*
8.) enter 'Return'
        (You should see the lines for 'Fox'
                Putting selection at .*idx: 0 par: 0 pos: 16
                 with len: 3
        but instead the regex finds 'jUMps'
                Putting selection at .*idx: 0 par: 0 pos: 20
                 with len: 5
