ally, \not is special: it is a zero width character. Type "=", put cursor in
front of it, type "\not" and voilà!
Ah that is good to know. Now I see why it is different from \cancel.

Now, I think I see why there is a difference, too. But my hunch is that
if it was not obvious for Scott, then it will be overlooked many LyX
users. And it's a bit cumbersome to think about whether a command has
zero width or not. So, why not make \not work additionally as \mathbb
(with the difference that it is just added before the selection of course).
