With this file, the numbers are on the left side in the PDF output, although I did not use leqno.
That is what i meant. Yes, it is possible that document classes or packages set the default numbering to the left by internally calling leqno.
Again, I am not opposed to reqno support. If others agree reqno can be supported and as Günter said her sees no problem. So fine with me for reqno.
Unfortunately I have not much spare time. I'll have a look right now and try to send a patch.
