There are reasons: e.g. babel-greek is useless without fonts supporting Greek -- the texlive-lang-greek package is hence rather large (95 MB). Also, Babel language files won't help much without the matching hyphenation patterns. Unfortunatly, these patterns must be compiled into the LaTeX format file: you load all patterns with every latex run. Therefore it makes sense to limit this to the languages you really need. I am aware that this is not a prohibiting limitation for modern computers. However, it is the motivation for the current splitting of texlive packages. I suggest to life with it (and change the example or add a note in EmbeddedObjects) rather than fight the distributors. Günter
