The secret patch does not seem to help with this issue.

OK, here you are (full screen, zoom 120%, UserGuide from 2.1.5, the
bottom contains the first line of the "how LyX looks" section):
2.1.5: 8 seconds
2.2.1dev: 23 seconds
2.3.0dev+Qt4 with caching: 10 seconds
2.3.0dev+Qt5 without caching: 9 seconds
So I do see an improvement wrt 2.2. But I have to admit that this
example does not strike me as a common use case.
