I am not sure whom you mean by "we" who found out that my Windoes system
is "heavily fragmented". Do you mean you and me?

Hi Daniel,

Yes.

 If so, then count me
out of this since I am not convinced. There is no other noticeable
problem with my system. Or is there some kind of common agreement among
LyX developers or community that my system is "fragmented"? Would be
nice to know.

You told me about many installations of the same VC runtimes. This is a
problem and also strange. One only needs one VC runtime for every MSVC
version and not 4 times the same. The probability is high that they
interfere with each other.

You have many things installed that are quite unusual.

Are you referring to the different Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributables?

Yes.

I guess uninstalling might help in that case. That's what I did.

It might be that you have some virus scanners interfering with
themselves or something similar.

Just one virus scanner installed. Maybe you have some details on what
"something similar" might be? I don't.

This was just a guess because you envountered problems nobody else did
for LyX 2.1.4 within months. So a virus scanner can be a problem but
must not. There is other software as well that can cause unwanted
effects. For example on my PC the desktop search engines DocFetcher and
Copernic sometimes make troubles since they permanently scan all file
changes.

I am still wondering whether there is any problem I reported that is likely due to something being wrong with my computer. I just checked my bug reports and I could not find any evidence for this.

LyX 2.1.4 is in the market for months now an nobody else complained
about the things you see (and you also did not yet report this until now
- after some months of using LyX). So unless you are able to reproduce
the problem on another PC, We cannot help you.

I am not asking for help. If I need help I will say so explicitly. I
want to help making LyX better. That is why I report problems.

Every bug report is of course welcome. I only wanted that you check on
another PC before reporting bugs because we/you found out that your main
PC shows problems which are not on other Win PCs.

I guess checking problems on other PCs would be helpful. Unfortunately, I don't have a second PC on which this is easily done. On the other hand, while it might be a nice information to have, I don't think that this should be a necessary condition for a bug report. There was this bug in Qt that became *obvious* due to some special setting on my PC. (http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/10017) Now this bug is being fixed in Qt. If I had not reported it, because I did not have the problem on another PC, this bug might have gone unnoticed for some more time and maybe turned out only later. But I guess in general it is better to know bugs earlier rather than later. One can still decide whether it is worth doing something about it or not.

So, if I should stop reporting bugs because my system is "kaput" and it
only holds the development of LyX back, then I can stop doing it.

No, please continue, just assure that you see the bug also on another PC.

I hope you find my points for not doing so reasonable.

Best regards
Daniel
