Yes, that would be possible. Could this be done at program
configuration? Don't we set up some version.h file at that time into
which this could go? I don't really feel like parsing the output from
"lyx2lyx -l" at runtime, though it could presumably be done, and we
could have some new option that made more easily parsed output.
