I propose to set the "default_output_format" to pdf2 (pdflatex).
This not only makes this clear, it also uses pdflatex as export route when
clicking the "default view" button.

I did this in 4d0356aea12854220/lyxgit for the "complex" manuals, where the
problems like the ones you named below are most likely.

Should I also set "default_output_format" to pdf2 (pdflatex) for the other
manuals where it is currently on "default"?
