No, this is sadly true. Just replacing LyX files will break LyX's functions. One need to set the PATH prefix in LyX etc. to keep it running. So it OK to warn people.
Clearly, it would be better to build the complete installer, but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort, especially because Uwe is working mainly on Windows.
Well, I can now grab your build and bundle an installer for LyX 2.2 alpha based on Qt 5.5. But note that there is a nasty bug in Qt 5.5 on Windows which forces us to wait for Qt 5.6.
