1.) Open new document
2.) in document settings select non-tex fonts
3.) Insert->Preview
3.) enter ERT \today{}
4.) save file
5.) move cursor out of Preview
No preview displayed
6.) close document
7.) reopen
8.) set tex fonts
9.) save document
10.) reopen document
now preview works
