So in this case myfancyoutputformat would be used instead of LaTeX (pdflatex)? If so, I now see why latex=pdflatex is needed. What would be a use case for using myfancyoutputformat over LaTeX (pdflatex)? The only advantage I see would be control over the file format settings such as editor/viewer so I think there's still something I'm missing in understanding this. Scott
