Comment (by lasgouttes):
This bug has been the subject of a GSoC project, where Hashini Senaratne
bravely dug into our largely undocumented drawing framework. The git
branch gsoc/scroll/master now contains a working implementation of
keyboard-based scrolling of wide rows. There is no scrollbar for now, but
the hard work is done.
This will probably get merged in master (for 2.2?) soon.
Sorry for the broad reply-to-all, but I just want to signal that despite
some long-standing quirks such as this one, I have been a loyal Lyx user
ever since it could be used cross-platform, which still is very
important for me as well as for the colleagues (who are especially
impressed by the math and table editors). Thanks for the ongoing work!
I just scrolled back on http://www.lyx.org/News, and saw that this bug
(or call it a feature request) is around seven years old, wow.
Thanks,
Sven
