And the same happens if you insert a degree symbol (and most likely others) to an ectaart document. After closer inspection, I think that ectaart and LuaTeX (with TeX fonts) are simply incompatible due to this macro name clash. So we should not pretend that this combination works (since it will only work for simple documents such as the plain template file, if we omit luainputenc). You could write a bug report to the ectaart maintainer, but I doubt he will break backwards compatibility and change that macro name just for the sake of a combination that will probably never be used in real life for this particular journal.
