I don't want to be negative, I appreciate that people are actually looking into testing of LyX, but I just want to head towards a testing scheme that I can actually use. So, here I will list some thing that may be improved or made easier (like you asked for): 1. The autotests can only be run on linux, and personally I hate the way they are designed using simulated keypresses. Especially because most of these tests are testing the low-level search facility which has nothing to do with UI. 2. The tests should indicate on what dependencies they depend, and if these dependencies are not there, the tests should not be failed. If the user wants, he can install the dependencies and try again. 3. Tests should be able to run on all platforms that LyX supports. 4. As said before, until now I've never been able to run all tests successfully. Latest attempt fails on exporting luatex, while I have luatex installed and can't find a way to update it to a newer version under Ubuntu 12.04. Conclusion: I have to browse over 1.500 test results and check that indeed all the failing tests are caused by exports to luatex. So, I really would like to focus on making proper tests that work and work on all platforms rather than designing over-night procedures to test a trillion of things, but which cannot be run by a simple soul like me.
