Yes, it is documented in INSTALL.MacOSX in the top level directory of the LyX sources. As I said, the built LyX application is using Mac OS resources only. This build is not bundled with the hunspell dictionaries but Apples OS spell checker service should do it too. Remember, it's a preview only and shouldn't be used for serious work.
