Why is configure.py slow? How long does its execution take? \TestPackage asks LaTeX if a package is installed so what has this to do with the OS?
It may be a problem with the way it is implemented, but the fact is that here configure.py needs >5s to complete. If I comment out _all_ the \TestPackage macros (I understand it is too much), the timing goes down to 2s.
