At least for the macros part, that stuff is in modules now, so no
compilation necessary.
It's possible that the only other thing we really need is some
indication in the citation module of how the database info is to
be output. I'll be happy to help with that if it looks worth doing.
The document settings now have a entry for bibliography style. This
stuff needs to be output to the preamble for biblatex, right? Something
like that should be added for the .bib file, too. So there is still some
code to write on this front.
I took a look at the 2.1 natbib.module and it seems it should be
possible to model a biblatex.module from it. However, there may be
some difficulties with all the various styles that biblatex supports.
We'll probably need separate modules for each of the various styles.
Modularization makes this easy to do, whereas the old way this would
mean hard-coding style after style after style.
At any rate, I will look into it a bit further. I see that the
customization manual has some info on the format of the CiteFormat
block. I don't not see any info on the CiteEngine block, though. I
suppose it's a new 2.1 feature related to the modularization of the
bibtex machinery you mentioned?
Yes. Probably we should get on someone to write the docs.
