Hello Peter, I've looked attentively at your proposal (although keep in mind that I'm no devel).
If I understand correctly, and I suspect that some mentors are as confused, you're aiming at a stand-alone programme that would allow InstantPreview-like client for MetaPost, TikZ, Asymtote, etc. You also provide working code. Couple of points: - Please provide some links to the graphics languages that your client would support ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetaPost ). Not all of us are very familiar with these. - If your proposal stands a chance of attracting some mentor attention, you need to explain in great detail how you intend to integrate the functionality within LyX. Will you have a MetaView widget that could be integrated into the LyX editor interface? Could this be done? How? Could it take the form of InstantPreview functionality that we already have? Could it be integrated with some special Custom Inset within a dedicated module for graphic creation? How will the error-handling fit the existing LyX debugging window? To my knowledge there are quite a few TikZ users in the LyX community, and if I understand correctly your proposal an InstantPreview-like functionality for TikZ/MetaPost/Asymptote code would be much appreciated. This could also be a first step towards some future Word/LibO-like graph creation in LyX (but I'm just daydreaming). In any case, please make it a bit clearer in the description what are the objectives of the project, what languages you intend to support, and importantly how this fits LyX.
